About

This course is specifically designed for Support Staff i.e HCAs, GPAs, and Pharmacy Technicians who may be expanding their role to support the healthcare clinician who conducts the full Asthma and COPD reviews.

After the course, students will be required to complete a competency assessment with a mentor in practice who is a registered professional i.e. Nurse or GP.  (Please note that after this training students will not be qualified to conduct the reviews themselves)

  • Accountability
  • Understanding basic anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system
  • Tools used for diagnosis
  • Symptoms of both conditions
  • Understanding the importance peak flow in asthma
  • Inhaler technique
  • Basic management
  • Red flags
  • When to refer to a senior clinician
