About

This course is accredited by the CPD Standards Office and is for nurses and registered health professionals working in general practice. It is designed to provide them with the knowledge and skills needed to perform and interpret spirometry accurately.

The training is based on the ARTP full course which covers how to perform quality assured spirometry and interpret the reports appropriately. It includes how to maintain and calibrate equipment, how to perform a spirometry test with reproducibility and quality, a practical demonstration, how to interpret the final report and a discussion of case studies.

By 2021 it is recommended that all staff recording and interpreting spirometry are assessed and certified as being competent against ARTP standards and on the national spirometry register.  This course does not include ARTP assessment and registration but details of how to obtain certification will be discussed at the end of the day.
