About

Asthma and COPD are two of the most common long-term conditions managed in primary care, yet variation in diagnosis and management continues to impact patient outcomes. This CPD accredited comprehensive two-day training course provides clinicians with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based respiratory care.

Course content includes:

  • Understanding asthma and COPD: pathophysiology, symptoms, and impact
  • Accurate diagnosis: history taking, assessment, and use of spirometry and FeNO
  • Inhaler devices: types, technique, and troubleshooting
  • Personalised care: action plans, self-management, and patient education
  • Recognising poor control, exacerbations, and red flags
  • Non-pharmacological support: smoking cessation, lifestyle, and pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Case studies and practical workshops to consolidate learning

Who should attend?
Practice Nurses, ANPs, and other clinicians working in primary care who are developing their role in respiratory care, or seeking to strengthen their skills in asthma and COPD management.

By the end of the course, delegates will feel confident in assessing, diagnosing, and supporting patients with asthma and COPD, while understanding when to escalate or refer for specialist input.

EQUIP is also delivering individual Introduction to Asthma, and Introduction to COPD sessions
