Event Details
This course for HCAs is designed to provide them with the knowledge and skills to deliver ear care in general practice. The course will cover taking an ear care history, examination of the ear, ear conditions treated in primary care and ear irrigation.
The course consists of one study day, followed by a period of supervised practice with a nurse mentor. Competency is assessed by a multiple choice/short answer test at the end of the course and a competency assessment by the nurse mentor in practice.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the structure and function of the normal human ear
- Be able to take a comprehensive history of signs and symptoms relevant to ear care
- Be able to examine the human ear using an otoscope and accurately identify the normal landmarks
- Understand the technique of ear irrigation using an automated machine and be prepared to undertake a period of supervised practice with a mentor in your workplace
