About the Trainer

Angela Barry

Angela Barry

I am the lead Podiatrist for diabetes in North East Essex with over 17 years’ experience of managing diabetic foot disease. I qualified as a Podiatrist in 2003 from the University of Brighton and quickly realised I had a passion for diabetic foot care, progressing into a diabetes specialist Podiatrist post in 2007 and an MSc in Podiatry and Diabetes in 2009. I managed the Community Podiatry service in North East Essex for 3 years from 2013. I gained a wealth of experience of planning and delivering footcare services for people with diabetes including working with primary care to ensure preventative strategies and robust referral pathways were in place. Throughout my career I have continued to hold a caseload of complex patients and work within an MDT setting with the aim of preventing lower limb amputation in persons with diabetes. I have years of experience of working with persons with diabetes presenting with established and often severe foot disease across primary, community and acute settings. I currently work for the North East Essex Diabetes Service as the Lead Podiatrist managing diabetic foot care pathway provision and service development. I am an enthusiastic educator with a passion for improving the care of people with diabetes. This desire to impart knowledge and skills has led me to complete clinical educator training with both the University of East London and the University of Essex. In my current role I have the responsibility for the learning and development programme on the prevention and management of diabetic foot disease for Health Care Professionals in primary and secondary care across North East Essex. I have experience of educating at various levels, having lectured for the University of Essex Diabetes Management Course, regional Podiatry groups and conferences, local group-based education sessions and individual GP practices.
